Dana Ford, McKee High School team up for 'Automotive Career Day'

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Seventeen Ralph R. McKee High School students got a firsthand look at the ins and outs of the automotive business at Dana Lincoln Ford's first "Automotive Career Day" Monday afternoon at its Travis location.

Junior and senior students who attended the recruitment event were shown the service room, where they were able to interact with technicians. Broken up into three groups, the technicians showed the students different tasks that are performed on a daily basis, and made themselves available to field questions from the curious youngsters.

The event was held to show local students who are interested in technology what goes on behind the scenes in the automotive business, hoping to gain their interest in the field.

Given the current shortage of young automotive technicians, Ford Motor Company has developed this new program, piloted this week at Dana Ford.

Speakers included: Martin Franklin, parts and service director at Dana Ford; Ken Goebel, technical support operations manager from Ford, and the students' instructor, Davide Sarno, and Agron Velija, assistant principal of McKee.
